Commercial Pilot Program
The commercial pilot program is intended for people who wish to fly as a career. With your commercial pilot license you are allowed to take passengers and cargo on board the aircraft you are flying for compensation.
During flight training we take the skills that you have learned for your private license and hone them to perfection in preparation for your commercial license. You will also be taught how to fly in a commercial environment.
Flight training will include, but is not limited to:
- Preflight preparations
- Preflight procedures
- Airport and heliport operations
- Off airport opperations
- Hovering maneuvers
- Takeoffs, landings, go-rounds
- Performance maneuvers
- Navigation
- Emergency operations
- Special operations
- Postflight procedures
Commercial ground school will be much like our private pilot ground school. Students will be able to do a majority of studying on their own, but will receive ground training as necessary.
Ground school will include, but is not limited to the following:
- FAA regulations
- Accident Report Requirements to NTSB
- Aerodynamics and principles of flight
- Meteorology
- Safe and efficient operation of aircraft
- Weight and balance
- Performance charts
- Aircraft limitations
- Aeronautical charts
- Air navigation facilities
- Aeronautical decision making
- Aircraft systems
- Maneuvers, procedures, and emergency operations
- Night and high density altitude operations
- National airspace
You are able to apply a maximum of 25 hours from the simulator toward your commercial flight requirements when with an instructor. The Simulator allows for a more cost efficient way to acquire your required minimum time.
To be eligible for a commercial rotorcraft pilot certificate, you must:
- Be at least 18 years of age, to take the commercial helicopter practical flight test.
- Be able to read, speak, write and understand the English language.
- Hold at least a helicopter private pilot certificate.
- Hold a current 3rd class (or higher) FAA medical certificate.
- Meet the aeronautical experience requirements that apply to the aircraft category and class rating sought
- Pass the commercial helicopter FAA oral and practical flight test.
The minimum requirements for the commercial helicopter certificate:
If you are applying for a commercial pilot certificate with a rotorcraft category and helicopter class rating, you must log at least:
- 150 hrs of flight time
- 100 hrs in a powered aircraft
