Add-On ratings

Pilots who already hold Private, Commercial, or CFI, CFII or ATP Ratings in fixed-wing aircraft can earn an "Add-On" Rating in a helicopter. Those pilots are not required to take additional FAA written exams and the minimum number to training hours required by the FAA is also reduced. The basic cost of earning a Private License is an estimate based upon the minimums required by the FAA. Actual times and expenses will depend on your individual skills and capabilities.

 

License Requirements Private Pilot Helicopter "add-on"

  • Possess a Private (or Higher) Pilot Certificate
  • Hold a current FAA 3rd class Medical (or Higher) Certificate
  • Complete 20 hours dual instruction minimum flight time
  • Complete 10 hours solo flight time
  • Pass FAA Oral & Practical Flight Test

License Requirements Commercial Pilot Helicopter "Add-On"

  • Possess a Commercial Pilot Certificate
  • 150 hrs total time (50 hours helicopters)
  • Have a minimum 100 hours Pilot-in-Command in a powered Aircraft (35 hours helicopters, 20 hours cross-country helicopters )
  • Hold a current FAA 2nd class Medical (or higher) Certificate
  • Meet day and night VFR cross-country requirements
  • Pass an FAA Oral & Flight Test

License Requirements Instrument Rating Helicopter "Add-On"

 

Helicopter Instrument "Add-On" Rating is for those who already hold an Airplane Instrument Rating, as well as at least a Private Helicopter Rating.

 

  • Must hold an Airplane Instrument Rating.
  • Have at least 50 hrs of cross-country PIC flight time (can be in airplanes or helicopters).
  • Complete 15 hrs. minimum instrument flight training in a helicopter.
  • Must complete one 100-nautical mile instrument cross-country instructional flight, which includes at least 3 different instrument approaches (2 non-precision and one precision) at different airports.
  • Must pass an FAA Instrument Oral and Practical Flight Test.
  • No ADDITIONAL FAA WRITTEN INSTRUMENT KNOWLEDGE TEST IS REQUIRED.

 

 

 

Each passenger UNDER 18 YEARS OLD MUST HAVE A PARENT or guardian sign a Liability waiver. (SOME FLIGHT RESTRICTIONS MAY APPLY, WEATHER PERMITTING, WEIGHT LIMITATIONS MAY APPLY, PILOT HAS THE FINAL DECISION FOR THE FLIGHT) Elite Helicopter Services is fully insured.
